September 7, 2009, a Monday
Homer (Skyline Dr), Alaska, USA
— An easy day around Homer and met Gary Lyon
Had my normal breakfast then worked on a blog entry. We left at 11:22 in the Jeep.

We went to the Emerald Air Service facility on the Spit so I could get some "inside information." I got a recommendation for a big breakfast in town (the Duncan House), information about where to find sea otters (at Land's End), and the location of the dump which is a good place to find eagles this time of year.

We drove out to Land's End on the Spit to look for sea otters. We didn't see any, but we did see lots of fishermen along the shore and lots of sea stars on the beach.

We had lunch at the Charthouse Restaurant in the Land's End Lodge at 12:15. I had a club sandwich and J had fried shrimp. The food wasn't that good, and J was really disappointed because the fried shrimp had been good there on her prior visit. We left at 1:15.

We parked near the main shopping area on the Spit and walked around. We went into the Sea Lion Gallery and looked around. J and I were both drawn to some stone lithographs of musk oxen and wolves by Gary Lyon. J asked the gentleman behind the counter if he was the artist. One thing led to another, and he offered to take us out on his boat to photograph puffins and sea otters!

We left the Homer Spit and went to the dump to look for eagles. There was one immature bald eagle in the middle of the landfill — not terribly photogenic — so we left.

We returned to the RV around 3:55 and I took a nap. I almost got out of bed around 4:45, which would have been a long nap for me, but the next thing I knew it was 5:20! I did some computer work.

We had dinner at 6:40 of chicken enchiladas. We sat and talked for a while over dinner.

Did some computer work, then worked on another blog entry.
